From its grounds on Mare Street, Loddiges drew collectors and botanists from across the world in search of the rare and the unknown.
In 1817, the House began publishing The Botanical Cabinet: twenty volumes of hand-coloured illustrations taken from living specimens in its collection. The work remains one of the defining records of botanical discovery.
Its orchid collection was considered the finest in private hands.
